Gates County Courthouse

The late Federal style courthouse, the focal point of the county seat of Gatesville, was completed in 1836. Striking features of the courthouse include the large fanlight over the central entrance pavilion and the uniformity of style and design between the exterior and interior.

One of a small number of ante-bellum courthouses remaining in the state, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The courthouse is being restored by the Gates County Historical Society for use as the public library and cultural center.
