It was organized to serve all of Hyde County and surrounding areas that provide goods and services to the County of Hyde. <BR><BR>Its purposes are to:<BR> <BR CLEAR=ALL><BR> Preserve the competitive enterprise system of business by:<BR> <UL> <LI>Creating a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of the business person and a concern for their problems. <LI>Creating a more intelligent business and public opinion regarding county, state and national legislative and political affairs. <LI> Preventing controversies which are detrimental to expansion and growth of business in the communities or adjusting them if they arise; and <LI>Creating a greater appreciation of the value of a more generous investment of substance and self on behalf of the interests of competitive business.</UL> Promote business and community growth and development by:<BR> <UL> <LI>Promoting economic programs designed to strengthen and expand the income potentials of all businesses within the trade area. <LI>Promoting programs of a civic, social and cultural nature which are designed to increase the functional and aesthetic values of the communities; and <LI>Discovering and correcting abuses which prevent the promotion of business expansion and county growth.</UL> The Chamber is governed by a fifteen member Board of Directors composed of representatives from throughout the county who serve a three year term, and led by a President who serves for one year. Board of Directors meetings are held monthly at various rotating sites throughout the county.<BR><BR> In a county where the population is less than 5500, the Chamber has over 200 members, an outstanding achievement. Bi-monthly "Issues Luncheons" are held with topics of interest geared to educate and keep members informed. Issues Luncheons are generally held the 2nd Tuesday of every other month beginning at 12 noon. <BR><BR> Beaufort County Community College's Small Business Center, Washington, NC, provides business seminars throughout the year, both on mainland Hyde County and Ocracoke Island with business related topics. <BR><BR> The Chamber works closely with the County of Hyde regarding economic development issues in the county. Their association with North Carolina's Northeast Partnership, both through economic development and tourism issues, provides additional resources. <BR><BR> They work with the Hyde County JobReady Partnership to provide career training for PreK-12 grades of the Hyde County Schools. They jointly sponsor such annual activities such as Career Days for Mattamuskeet High School, Careers on Wheels for the lower grades, and field trips to visit local businesses for teachers and administrators. <BR><BR> The Chamber takes an active roll in community activities, events and festivals. They sponsor the annual Mattamuskeet Fun Ride, a bike ride around and across <A HREF="http://www.albemarle-nc.com/mattamuskeet/">Lake Mattamuskeet</A>. <BR><BR> You are invited to ''take the road less traveled'' and visit beautiful mainland Hyde County or <A HREF="http://www.ocracoke-nc.com/">Ocracoke Island</A>.
