Visitors with a need for speed can hit the tracks in Creswell, just a couple miles west of Columbia, at the Outer Banks Speedway. The all-concrete 1/8 mile track has a two lane, 50' ft. wide racing surface where local and visiting speed demons can put the pedal to the metal.

The 62 acre facility can accommodate 600 race cars and over 10,000 spectators, (in addition to parking for 3,500 spectator vehicles.) The track is IHRA sanctioned, and the Outer Banks Speedway is currently running Pro Mods, Pro Stocks, ET Brackets and more. Folks can swing by throughout the spring, summer, and fall months to watch the speediest drag race cars, bikes, and stock cars in the region battle it out on the hard concrete surface, and races are help approximately every month or so, generally from March until October. The Outer Banks Speedway is located at 426 Benson Road in Creswell, and tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 252-339-3046, or can be obtained at the track's entrance on race day. Gates typically open two hours before the race starts, and races, depending on the number of participants, can go on well into the night, providing hours of entertainment for die-hard gearheads.

Many events are also "open" races, meaning that amateur bike and car racers can participate, typically for a small sign-up fee, allowing newcomers to start their racing careers with a splash on the Inner Banks' most prominent race track.
